Seonaid Green

Seonaid is currently a volunteer, having been involved in CLD in Local Government first as a worker and then in management for 28 years, primarily in the rural sector, before retiring three years ago. As part of the voluntary sector she is on the 'receiving end' of the delivery of CLD, and so she recognises the areas where staff skills need to be developed. This is one of the reasons why she believes the aims of the Standards Council are so important.

Seonaid hopes that the Standards Council will be able to achieve its aims so that CLD becomes widely recognised and valued amongst other professional disciplines, policy makers and local communities. She believes this is particularly important in the current climate, where the merging of services in Local Authorities is leading to situations where managers of CLD have limited understanding of the principles and values of community learning and development and, as a consequence, they do not value their staff or acknowledge their skills, knowledge and expertise.
