Pat Brechin
Pat works for City of Edinburgh Council as a senior CLD worker responsible for a team of staff with a city wide responsibility for adult education. She has been employed in Community Education/CLD for more years than she cares to remember and in that time has been involved in all aspects of CLD - youth work, community development, community centre work and adult education - so joining the Standards Council was a natural step for her! She believes this is an important opportunity to establish a strong voice for our sector.
Pat is passionate about adult education and the importance of opportunities being available for people to continue learning throughout their lives. She believes that we need to work hard to raise the profile of adult learning, and highlight the many benefits it gives people and communities, particularly because now more than ever there is an important role for our work. The increasing wealth gap, inequalities and forces for exclusion in our society and the need for democratic renewal mean education is a key resource for communities challenging the status quo and seeking to bring about change.
