Mary Rhind
Mary is Adult Literacies Co-ordinaor at Highland Adult Literacies Partnership. She came to her current post through Gaelic community learning but now flies the banner for English and ESOL integration too! She believes that CLD knows no language boundaries and that it is vital to Scotland because it strengthens communitites, which are the roots that feed the country's well being. She is also concerned that Adult Literacies is often seen as something "other" than CLD; something sitting on the edge. She believes it should be at its core.
Mary joined the Standards Council to help the workforce gain the professional respect it deserves. She would like to see fellow professionals who work in the communities respect and be aware of the homogeneity of the CLD field within its diversity. This is particularly important as she believes partnership working is key to our success, so there must be trust and respect between professionals to work with each other as they support individuals and communities to achieve their potential. As a Highlander, she also wanted to ensure the Council represents all of Scotland's communities.
