Karen McArdle
Karen is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Education at the University of Aberdeen. She joined the Standards Council because she wished to contribute more to a profession that she has worked in for many years. At work, she already helps the next generation of qualified workers to learn how they can best make use of their developing knowledge, skills and personal qualities in CLD; with the Council she can learn and develop as well.
Karen believes that CLD is important to Scotland because Scotland still has people, systems and structures that enshrine disadvantage. She believes that the key to the success of our communities is a desire and willingness to countenance and work towards change; our activists are the heroes and heroines of Scottish communities. Through the Council we can work together to change these three things and can empower others to seek change for themselves.
