Ann Swinney
Ann has been working in adult literacies for about 14 years and is currently employed part-time by Perth and Kinross Council as an Adult Literacies Worker and part-time by the University of Dundee on the TQAL programme. Like many of her colleagues in Community Learning and Development, she started as a volunteer. She began volunteering, and remains driven by the conviction that being literate is fundamental to having a voice, getting it heard and making change for the better.
Ann joined the Standards Council because she felt it was important that literacies is recognised as an independent, specialist and underpinning strand of CLD activity. She felt that her experience working in the field, and her contacts and insight, enable her to voice some of the interests and concerns of those working as volunteers, part-time and full-time, in this area of CLD.
