Interesting findings recently about what volunteers want in the way of training..and it’s not always certificates...but they do want to celebrate their progress...and be supported and mentored by practitioners they respect and can see what good practice can be...they want to get down to work right away but recognise the need for initial training...and the most effective training is on the job alongside an experience practitioner who can be a role model, for a while at least. Training is often boring at the beginning –usually because it’s about rules and “what you shouldn’t do...”
We need to ask ourselves, in CLD at least, why we have’nt got this just a little more on the button!!?
A quick glance at Volunteer Development Scotland site...some top work developed there about volunteers identifying and monitoring training and development on a number of levels..time not to re invent the wheel when someone already has done so.

Would be interested in examples of good practice, that meet the needs of volunteers as above.
