How to get involved
Volunteering
There are many ways to get involved in CLD work. One of the most important is to volunteer your time working with young people, local communities or adult learners. If this is something that interests you, then you can find out more at:
Volunteer Development Scotland - search for current local opportunities
CLD Directory - contact details for each CLD partnership in Scotland
These opportunities will offer you training and support during your time volunteering with them.
From our committee members
"I became involved in CLD through volunteering. I was working in pensions administration at the time (over 20 years ago!) and I helped run a health and fitness group in Stirling. Once I realised there was a job called community education worker, I went to study at Edinburgh University to become qualified."
"I originally became involved in CLD through a voluntary youth work commitment. When I was doing that I was inspired by a person who encouraged me to take my interest further."

Becoming qualified
If you are interested in developing your skills further, there are various routes available that lead to a recognised qualification in Community Learning and Development.
The professional level qualification is at degree or post-graduate level, and there are entry routes through Personal Development Awards, HNCs, Modern Apprenticeships and other qualifications. Such training programmes have been developed locally and nationally in a range of formats. Please contact either your local
CLD partnership or the CLD Standards Council for more details.
Degree and post-graduate programmes may be studied full time or though work-based distance learning options, depending on what a particular provider offers.
